The article examines the figurative use of singular and plural forms of nouns in modern Russian and the changes observed in their usage. Particular attention is paid to cases where grammatical number loses its direct quantitative meaning and acquires generalized, abstract, expressive, or stylistic functions. The study shows that figurative number usage reflects the dynamic nature of Russian morphology and its interaction with semantics and discourse. The analysis demonstrates that changes in number forms are influenced by colloquial speech, media language, and communicative needs, which contributes to the expansion of grammatical meanings and expressive potential of the language.
