ANTIOXIDANT, ANTIMICROBIAL, AND METABOLIC STABILIZATION PROPERTIES OF BERBERIS VULGARIS L.: ITS ROLE IN MODERN MEDICINE
Main Article Content
Abstract
This article reviews the antioxidant, antimicrobial, and metabolic stabilization effects of plant extracts belonging to the Berberis genus based on an extensive analysis of the scientific literature. The findings demonstrate that the bioactive components of Berberis-including berberine, palmatine, jatrorrhizine, berbamine, and various phenolic compounds-play critical roles in reducing oxidative stress, inhibiting microbial proliferation, and modulating glucose and lipid metabolism. Due to the presence of phytochemical synergy, complex extracts exhibit significantly higher therapeutic potential than isolated constituents. The article provides a scientifically grounded overview of the prospects for utilizing Berberis extracts in modern medicine.
