The article discusses biologically active substances from plants – phytoncides and their significance for humans. Methods for extracting some subclasses of phytoncides, in particular essential oils, saponins and glycosides, are presented. Scientific interest in these substances is due to the urgency of finding alternative ways to combat airborne pathogens, protozoa and insect pests that are safe for the environment.
